World on the Horizon: Swahili Arts Across the Indian Ocean
I’m back in Los Angeles and knee deep into year two of my Ph.D. program, which will be the final year as a master’s student. If anyone, at all, who reads this blog is in the Los Angeles area, you should come to the Fowler’s opening on Saturday night, which will feature Swahili Art throughout the Indian Ocean. Figuring bongo flava as a part of the larger Indian Ocean culture is the direction my work seems to be now taking. Therefore, I’m excited to go and see some historical context of the current cultural movements I’m looking at.
Also, I’m doing my first guest lecture on East African Pop on Wednesday morning. I’m hoping for it to be somewhat of a dry run for my master’s paper prospectus. Hope it goes well!
