Tuning the Kingdom

On May 30, University of Rochester Press published a book by my former thesis advisor and friend, Damascus Kafumbe. The book is called Tuning the Kingdom: Kawuugulu Musical Performance, Politics, and Storytelling in Buganda. I am extremely excited to share this news because this is a monumental achievement for Damascus! Also, I am honored to have been helpful to him during the process of putting the book together. 

The book's description reads " Tuning the Kingdom unveils a narrative of the Kiganda monarchy as it is archived in the performance practice and storytelling of Kawuugulu music and dance..." It is a stunning achievement in both an analysis of the interaction between music and political efficacy as well as an ethnography and understanding of a Bugandan musical practice. Go out and get this book!!
