Zanzibar!
When I touched down here in early July, I knew that I was going to need to go to Zanzibar at some point. Last week, I took a ferry to Stone Town and took a lot of pictures. I used it as a small vacation from desperately trying to fumble my way through fieldwork. Here's a photo essay from those three days:
A selfie in the terminal in Dar
Views from the ferry leaving Dar
One of the most photogenic harbors I've ever seen
right????
Puzzle Coffee Shop - Tanzania doesn't have a huge culture of coffee drinking even though they are one of the world's leading exporters of coffee. Finding a coffee shop is difficult. Finding one that serves pour over coffee seemed impossible until I found this place. A respite from instant coffee!!!
The streets are thin here
Fordhani gardens - every night there are a bunch of street vendors that set up delicious stands for dinner. If you know a bit of Swahili and avoid the scammers, you can eat well for pretty cheap.
My view at Monsoon restaurant. The taraab performance was great! The food...not as great!
a peek over the rail
A pic of the beautiful old Anglican church next to Darjani
The altar is nice too!
Stone town is very nice to look at. This was taken right after I had successfully haggled for spices.
the cats are really the owners of the island
they are so aloof!
inside there was a cool CD store!
one last picture of the harbor at sundown
Till next time, Stone Town! It's nice to know that whenever I'm in Dar, it's a quick 2 hour ferry ride to a peaceful place like this.
